Obituary of Inku Sim

Dateline: Glenville
Inku Sim passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Ellis Hospital at the age of 85. Born on June 2, 1936 in Seoul, South Korea, he was the son of the late Chong K. and Sun Y. Sim.

He was born, raised and educated in Seoul, South Korea. He served in the South Korean Army and worked in the United States Embassy in Seoul. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 and worked at General Electric for 25 years. He was incredibly proud of his time at GE and considers it the pinnacle of his career. After retiring from GE, he continued his career at Xerox until his final retirement in 2005.

Mr. Sim took tremendous pride in his heritage. He was the seventh President of the Albany Korean-American Fellowship Association. Under his leadership, the Association developed strong ties with Korean War Veterans in the Capital District, demonstrating sincere appreciation for their service in wartime.

Mr. Sim was a founding member of the Korean Presbyterian Church in Albany, NY. In his later years, he was active in Shenendehowa United Methodist Church of Clifton Park, NY and First Congregational Church in Martha’s Vineyard, MA. He volunteered at community dinners and served on the architectural review and grounds keeping committees. Mr. Sim was an avid outdoorsman. There’s nothing he enjoyed more than surfcasting for bluefish at Wasque, Chappaquidick. He took great pride in his gardening and landscaping, as well.

Above all, Mr. Sim cherished his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dr. Young Sim, as well as his daughter Sandy (Jim Katzman) of Paradise Valley, AZ and his son Eddie (Susan) of Denver, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren that he loved dearly: Jonathan, Jack, Jessica, Julia, Olivia, and Cameron. He is also survived by his brother, Suk Ku Sim, and his sister, Yang Hee Sim, both of Seoul, Korea. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Bock Hee Sim.

Mr. Sim’s family would like to thank Dr. David Shaffer (NYOH) and Dr. Joseph Fusella (Community Care) for their dedicated and compassionate care in the final months of Mr. Sim’s life.
