Obituary of Ivy Scott

On Christmas morning 2021, Ivy Scott, 91, of Mohawk Ave, Alplaus passed peacefully to be reunited with her husband, daughter, beloved parents and siblings. Born in Dundee, Scotland to her late parents John and Elizabeth (Markie) Mann.   She was the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter which she claimed brought her good luck!

In 1951, Ivy immigrated to the United States aboard the HMS Queen Mary.  Her sister Margaret, a WW2 GI bride, invited her to come to America and join her in Schenectady NY  There she met her husband, Leland F. Scott. They were married in 1953 and share sixty years together. In 1958 they moved to Alplaus, NY where they raised their family. 

Ivy was an adventurer.  Shortly after arriving from Scotland she began a lifelong series of trips back home to Scotland and be with family.  Eventually she would also go on to vacation in Maine and the Adirondacks with her family.  She has also visited most of the European countries, Panama, California, Mexico, Florida and Canada.  Her trips were always shared with family. 

 Ivy was a working woman.  She was first employed as an electronics assembler.  She worked at the Glencliff Elementary school and the Mayfair IGA. Ivy worked many years at a foundry in Schenectay where she organized and negotiated as a union leader.  Her family remains very proud of the better wages and working conditions she helped bring about.  The last chapter in her work life was at the Schenectady County Glendale Nursing Home as a nurse's aid for 10 years.  

She was a caring mother and grandmother, who was blessed with great grandchildren. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she was the star!  Always glamorous, fun, and loving came easy to her.  She loved her home and her neighbors.  Ivy maintained cherished relationships all her life with local friends of all generations who emigrated from Scotland and England. Always an ambassador for the land of her birth.  She loved shopping, looking for bargains, and getting her own way with store managers about the sale prices!

In Ivy’s final months she was cared for by the loving staff of Glendale, who the family thanks for their care and dedication.   Ivy was predeceased by her loving husband Lee; cherished daughter, Iris E. Scott; and Ivy’s four sisters and 1 brother. 

To continue Ivy’s legacy is her son Ken, long time daughter in law Greta Petry; grandchildren, Kelly Scott ( Kris Tan), Aaron Scott, Ashely Goodrich; great-grandchildren, Moses Fayette Scott, Miles Scott Tan and Avery Scott Tan; brother, John Mann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Ivy’s family would love to see friends and relatives on Friday, April 22nd at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd.for a calling period between 10 AM to 12 PM. A honorable Scottish procession to Saratoga National Cemetery, where Ivy will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Lee, will follow service.
