Obituary of James "Jimmy" G. Smith Jr

James “Jimmy” G. Smith Jr , 75, of Scotia, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2022, at home surrounded by family after a long illness.
James was born on February 25, 1946, in Albany to the late James G. Smith Sr. and Frederica (Collen) Smith. He traveled extensively during childhood with his family, even living in the Philippines where his father was stationed. Jimmy proudly served in the United States Army at Ft. Gordon, GA. He was married to his wife Melinda (Uttberg) for nearly 50 years. For most of his career, James was self-employed as a general construction contractor. More recently he was employed by Golub Corporation and retired in 2016. Jimmy enjoyed a wide variety of sports including baseball, football, tennis, golf and auto racing. He loved the outdoors and was a member of Dug Mountain Ponds Club in Speculator for over 20 years.
James is survived by his wife, Melinda (Uttberg) of Scotia; son Alexander (Jennifer Syvertsen) Smith of Powell, OH; daughter Bree Smith of Scotia; daughter Elizabeth Smith (Joshua Sabatini) of Scotia; grandson, Antonio Cianfarani of Scotia; granddaughter Ayla Cianfarani of Scotia; mother in law Ellen “Jane” Uttberg of Scotia; sister Jean Thanarajakool of Whittier, CA; step sister Constance Davids of Port St Lucie, FL; step brother Jacob Marzahl (Maria) of Selkirk, NY and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy sacrificed a lot for his family and never expected nor wanted anything in return. It was his love and commitment that made him a great man. His memory and love will live on through the generations to come.
