Obituary of Conrad W. Saunders

Conrad W. Saunders, 91, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2022. He was the beloved son of the late Roland S. and Pauline (Hilton) Saunders. Born in Gloucester, MA on April 2, 1930, he graduated from Gloucester High School.

He went on to Wentworth Institute in Boston MA, with high honors in Industrial Electricity, graduating in 1955.  He was united in marriage on September 17, 1951, to the former Mary J. Brennan, in the Philippines. Conrad was an engineer. From managing small AC motors in Schenectady he went to KAPL in Niskayuna. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club with over 40 years of continued service.

Conrad was a volunteer fireman since 1975 at West Glenville Fire Department, answering alarms for nearly 40 years. He proudly served as a Commissioner for the Fire Department.  He was most comfortable outdoors where he enjoyed cutting back the fields on a tractor or gardening around his home. Conrad loved to travel by car on long trips, deer hunting and observing nature.  He had a passion for crossword puzzles and a fondness for animals. He was predeceased by his brothers Gary and Peter Saunders.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Saunders ; his son Conrad W. Saunders Jr. and daughter, Sarah A. Saunders, all of Schenectady. He leaves a brother, Roland Saunders Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

Public visiting hours will be held Saturday, January 29th at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. from 1-3 PM.  A private interment with the military honors bestowed will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery.  Contributions in memory of Conrad Watson Saunders may be made to the West Glenville Volunteer Fire Department, 2024 W. Glenville Rd. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
