Obituary of Phyllis J. Munk

 Phyllis J. Munk, 93, passed away peacefully January 29, 2022, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center.

Born in Santa Cruz, Calif., the daughter of Reuben G. and Florence (Kirk) Harvey, Phyllis graduated from Rosalia High School in Washington. Furthering her education she graduated Washington State University with a B.S. in Home Economics and just short of a Masters from Russell Sage Evening Division in Albany.

She met her husband Edward Munk while in college and they married in 1950. They lived a short while in Lynn, Mass. and then in Burlington Vt., an area she enjoyed immensely. In 1957 Phyllis and Ed built their home in Glenville, when their first born daughter Cindy was four years old.

Phyllis was an avid vegetable gardener and fabulous baker known for her renown Deep Dish Apple Pie. She and Ed traveled the country in their RV following his retirement. Phyllis enjoyed a memorable cruise to Alaska, read mystery novels, and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She was a faithful and longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady. Those who knew her cannot help but recall the unique warm persona she extolled to others.

Her beloved Edward passed away in 2009. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cindy Galkiewicz, Greg (Lorena) Munk, and Dwayne Munk (Susan Colantuoni); grandchildren: Jennifer (Renes) DeSouza and Gerred (Samila) Munk. She also leaves a legacy of two great-grandchildren: Daiana Barbosa and Laila DeSouza. Visiting with the family will begin on Monday, February 7 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., East Glenville.

A Celebration of Life religious service will be held at 12 p.m. with Reverend Francis Rigobert officiating in the funeral home. A procession to the Saratoga National Cemetery for committal service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her name at act.alz.org/donate.
