So sorry to hear of Uncle Richie’s passing I will always remember holidays with family and the time he brought out his k-rations from his trips in the reserves and sitting around the table and tasting them. I served with D/229th at the same time as Richard. I'm sure at some point we had interactions but it's so hard to remember details from 54 years ago. Each flight platoon was like a mini family. We shared a good natured rivalry and camaraderie. Not much much time to really get to know each outside the outside the platoon as the platoons were usually separated to support different companies within the 229th Battalion. I know all about his exposure to Agent Orange. We were often called upon to fly armed cover for those spray missions and would come back soaked in that stuff. My heart goes out to your family! Our flight platoons in my estimation were full of very BRAVE HEROS. May Richard rest in pease! I had commemorative coins made for the 50th Anniversary of our time in Vietnam. I was so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. The memories just rushed through me of all the wonderful times we had as kids growing up and latet in life. Our families were very close. He was a wonderful guy and will be missed.
