Obituary of Elizabeth “Betty” Flynn

Dateline: Saratoga

Elizabeth “Betty” Flynn, died March 3, 2022 at the age of 90. Born June 20, 1931 to parents Doris Matus and Dr. Morris Matus, Betty was raised in Bayside, NY. Upon graduating with honors from Adelphi University, she married Lawrence “Larry” Flynn. When he died in 2017, they had been married 64 years.

Betty was a loving, funny, wonderfully sweet person who shared her warmth and smile with everyone she met. She had many outside interests and talents but her family was the center of her universe. An amazing cook and hostess, she was never happier than when her home was bursting with family and friends celebrating holidays, birthdays, and more.

An extraordinary mother, she embodied the patience, love, strength, and understanding required to raise 4 daughters: Sue (John) Glascott, Patricia (Art) Granados, Barbara (Christopher) Peck, and Mary (David Piedra) Flynn. As a grandmother she was the G.O.A.T. When each of her 10 grandchildren were born, it was Betty to the rescue, moving in for a week to run the household.

She adored her husband Larry, supported his military career and mission, proudly on his arm at ceremonies and social events. They traveled extensively during his career, and once retired, they spent winters in Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Betty is survived by her daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Her ashes will be buried with her loving husband, MG Lawrence P. Flynn at Saratoga National Cemetery. There will be no services at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Online condolences www.glenvillefuneralhome.com
