Obituary of Noreen J. Larkin

Noreen J. Larkin, 74, passed away unexpectedly 5 April 2022, she was surrounded by the love of her sister and devoted friend. Born on February 17, 1948 in Schenectady, NY to her late parents James Francis and Clara Eleanor (Rutkowski) Larkin.

She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1966 and went on to receive her degree in Education from Pace University. Noreen continued her studies by earning a Master’s Degree from Russell Sage College. After college, she began working in elementary and middle school at Horace Mann School. Later she took a longterm, fulfilling position at St. John the Evangelist School. 

Following her teaching career of approximately 20 years, Noreen preferred to stay busy and have purpose. For years she worked for Solomon & Solomon Law Firm in the Accounting Department and for the Department of Health. Noreen was also active in her community, she will be remembered from the Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxiliary in Schenectady.

Noreen was a devoted Irish Catholic who lived a very spiritual life. She was a believer in signs and also never let life be taken for granted, she famously would say, “There’s never enough time to do what you want to do.” She was a mentor to many of her students and believed in their higher potential, always pushing them to never settle in life. 

As a person, Noreen was a compassionate, understanding, non-judgmental individual. She lived an independent lifestyle that was filled with her life passions, including: reading, baking, crossword puzzles and traveling. Her most important person was her sister, Debbi, together they made countless memories, especially on their vacations and cruises together. 

Survivors include her loving sister, Debbi Larkin and fun-loving friend, Nick Ciotoli; as well as countless friends. 

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Ellis Medicine ER and Sue Daly, RN from C4 for her professional and comforting care in Noreen’s final hours.  

Friends and Relatives are invited to gather at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Saturday, April 9th, from 10 to 11 AM. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 AM, followed by a procession to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery for burial.
