Obituary of Thomas A. Nappi

Dateline: Niskayuna

Thomas A. Nappi, 75, passed away from Lewy Body Dementia peacefully on May 22, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Carl Nappi Sr. and Gertrude (Horton) Nappi. Tom was a 1964 graduate of Linton High School and proudly went on to defend his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1969. Following serving his country he continued his education at Schenectady County Community College, obtaining an Associates degree in Fire Science. Tom married his beloved wife Donna (Hinse) Nappi on February 19, 1972.

He was a dedicated firefighter for Niskayuna Fire District 1 from 1972 until his retirement as Captain in 1998.  Tom served as an elected Fire Commissioner from 2004 to 2018. Tom also owned and operated Niskayuna Electric & Snowplowing for many years. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, American Legion Post 1092 and the Bent Iron and The Ancient Order of Hibernians golf leagues.  Tom found great joy in golfing, running, skiing, travel, boating, snowmobiling and spending time at Sacandaga Lake. He also was an avid New York Giants fan. However, his greatest joy was the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Left to honor his memory is his wife, Donna Nappi, his children Thomas K. Nappi (Missy), Melissa Banks and Lora Hyde (Christopher). He was the cherished Papa to Jack Banks, Mason Banks, Ashley Hyde, Tommy Nappi, Kate Banks, Samantha Hyde, Tyler Nappi and Tessa Nappi. His brothers Richard and Francis Nappi, sisters-in-laws Diane Nappi, Barbara Buchardt (Pete), Carol Shimkus (Dave), Judy Martin (Tom) and Nancy Shults along with many nieces, nephews and friends survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Carl Nappi Jr., sisters-in-laws Nancy Nappi and Sandra Nappi, and nephew Michael Nappi.

Tom was known as a work hard play hard guy who always made you feel like part of the family.

Calling hours for Tom will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road Glenville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
