Dorothy Hinds

Obituary of Dorothy E. Hinds

Dorothy E. Hinds, 79, of Glenville passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 7, 2022. Born in Cicero, IL to her loving late parents, Joseph  M and Mary  P (Bajza) Galos.

Raised in the suburbs of Chicago, IL, she graduated from Nazareth Academy high school. She continued her education at DePaul University where she received her bachelors degree in business. After graduation, she worked at Harris Bank in Illinois; her work background continued in Administration.

While living in Chicago, she met the love of her life, John Hinds, another Chicago native. They were married in 1968 and began their marriage living in El Paso and Colorado Springs while John was in the military. After his service, their family moved back to Chicago where Dorothy worked at First National Bank. In 1971, they began their family in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect.  It was then when Dorothy dedicated her life to raising her family.

In 1979, her husband began working for General Electric and their family moved to Glenville, where they planted their roots. She became an active member of her parish, Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, she served as a longtime member of the Rosary Altar Society. Later in life, she worked for Coldwell Banker as a real estate agent and was involved in the P.E.O, a philanthropic organization for women.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed crafting, cooking and gardening; she had an incredible green thumb, who maintained beautiful bird feeders, specifically for hummingbirds. Above all, Dorothy’s family was the most important part of her life, whether she was supporting her kids in school, extracurricular events at the Charvale Swim meets or making sure everyone came together for her beloved lasagna dinners.

In Dorothy’s spare time, she appreciated arts and entertainment. John and her enjoyed many Broadway shows and seeing the Philadelphia Symphony at SPAC. Dorothy’s family will remember her sweet, kind personality that made everyone feel loved.

To continue Dorothy’s memory is her loving husband of 54 years, John Hinds; children, Jennifer (Michael) Ward of Lenox, MA and Kevin (Melanie) Hinds of Bath, Maine; cherished grandchildren, Brendan and Fiona Ward; she is also survived by her sister, Mary Therese (Robert) Millar of Jupiter, FL.
