Obituary of Dorothy A. McDonald

Mrs. Dorothy A. McDonald (DeSimone), 90, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Born in Schenectady on July 7, 1932, she was the loving daughter of John and Mary (DeNegris) DeSimone. Dorothy was married on April 11, 1953 to Matthew McDonald Jr. at her church St. Anthony's Roman Catholic church in Goose Hill. In only a few short years the couple moved to Scotia and resided on Richland Drive from 1956- 2018. 

Dot enjoyed raising her three sons and supported them in school activities and athletics. She herself was an avid golfer, fisherman and camper. The McDonald's were parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church for many years. Following Matthew's retirement in 1988 the couple enjoyed spending winters in Zephyrhills, FL. The McDonalds enjoyed their camp at Hidden Pond (Brant Lake), uniting with family and friends, playing cards. Dorothy was a member of a regular pinochle group. 

Matthew Jr. passed away on December 13, 2020.

Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her three sons, Howard McDonald (Julie Kinley) of Malta, Mark (Lorinda), of Lake Luzerne and Matthew III (Melanie) of Galway. Surviving also are six beloved grandchildren: Maylee (Brad) Bowers, Sara O’Brien, Lauren (Paul) Ciullo, James (Kristin) McDonald, Devin (Becca) McDonald and Kendra McDonald; as well as her brother, Donald (Georgia) DeSimone.  Also seven cherished great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Mohawk Trail at Glendale Nursing Home and Community Hospice for their valued care of Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, at 10:30 AM in the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Rd. with Rev. Richard A. Carlino officiating. A calling period will begin on Friday from 9 AM until the service.

Interment will follow at Schenectady Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Disease Association. Online condolences at glenvillefuneralhome.com for florals, candle and gifts.
