Obituary of Peter Martin Lohne

Peter Martin Lohne, age 71, passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus on Sunday, September 25th, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born January 3rd,1951 in New Haven, Connecticut to parents Leonard Warren and Birgit (Lundberg) Lohne. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Peter graduated from Amity Regional High School, in Woodbridge, Connecticut in 1969. After high school, Peter graduated from Upsala College in 1973 with a BA in Accounting and subsequently earned his CPA.

During his freshman year, he met Carol Ruth Gattoni. After their first date, they became inseparable, and on June 29, 1974 they were married. As a couple, they could do anything together; everyone who knew them admired the love they had for one another. Carol and Peter had strong values of faith, family, and community, which they passed on to their children and grandchildren. They raised their three cherished daughters in Bethany, CT, where they lived for 23 years before moving to Burlington, CT.

Upon completing college, Peter was employed by Ernst & Ernst of New Haven, Connecticut for six years. After those years of public accounting, Peter joined Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. in New Britain, CT. There, he was a dedicated employee for 26 years, having several roles of increasing leadership. He proudly retired from the company as the Executive Vice President in 2006. He was accomplished in his career and loved his work, especially because of the people he worked with. His career afforded him the opportunity to help others through philanthropy and his desire to give back to the community. Peter was able to retire with Carol to their dream home on Great Sacandaga Lake in Northville, NY.

Peter attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Woodbridge, Connecticut from childhood to adulthood. His family were founding members, and he continued their legacy by serving in numerous positions such as deacon, youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and more. His heart for the Lord and serving others was evident to all. After moving to Burlington, Connecticut, the family attended Valley Community Baptist Church, where Peter was a young men’s youth leader for several years. Upon moving to Ballston Lake, NY in 2018, Peter and Carol became members at Grace Chapel in Clifton Park, NY.

Peter was passionate about helping children and was on the advisory board at Klingburg Children’s Center in New Britain, CT. Later in life, he became a volunteer of The Salvation Army, from supporting the yearly kettle effort to funding entire breakfasts for the homeless and cooking alongside Carol for the less fortunate. His mindset and huge heart inspired his children to continue his legacy of giving back.

For many years, the Lohne family spent summers in the Adirondacks on Great Sacandaga Lake. Their retirement home became the destination for family and friends to gather and make memories. Peter loved boating, especially when that meant driving the pontoon as his children and grandchildren were tubing. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing with Carol, gardening, and in his youth, playing hockey.

Peter was a loving father and grandfather, who had an infectious laugh that will be remembered by all who knew him. Peter was reliable and always there to lend a helping hand. He was a family man, who made everyone around him feel like family.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol; daughter Kimberly Susan Smith, her husband Myron, their daughter, Abigail Lauren, and their sons, Daniel Martin and Christopher Warren; daughter Jennifer Sandra Crabtree, her husband Andrew, their sons, William Elden and Andrew Martin, and their daughter Elizabeth Hannan; daughter Christine Emma Parenteau, her husband Brandon, their daughters Lillian Emma and Madalynn Rose, and their son Brayden Peter Louis; mother Birgit (Lundberg) Lohne; sister Sandra Biggi and her husband Ian; and brother Michael Lohne and his wife.
