Betty Fletcher

Obituary of Betty L. Fletcher

Betty L. (Carter) Fletcher, 92, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022. Born in Ellsworth, Maine to her late parents, Howard L. And Frances (Robinson) Carter.

She attended Ellsworth High School. Growing up she enjoyed good, old fashioned fun on her family’s chicken farm; playing games with her 4 siblings, helping her mother cook, bake and clean, swinging on her swing and singing.

Betty was the loving mother of two daughters, Trish and Debbie, whom she raised in Clifton Park. Her children were her pride and joy and being their mother was her most important role. She was married to Jerry Fletcher for 30 years, even though they separated they became good friends and enjoyed being grandparents together.

She worked in the cafeteria at Shenendehowa CSD, babysat children in her home, and later she worked in housekeeping at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, where she loved the residents and they appreciated her visits.

As a talented seamstress, Betty would sew and design many cute outfits for her daughters, Trish and Debbie. She also enjoyed cooking: turkey dinners, lasagna and chicken, chicken dumplings; baking and gardening in her rock garden. She enjoyed ceramic classes in her free time, she made a memorable ceramic Christmas Tree that was put out every Christmas.

Betty will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and beautiful red hair. She welcomed all of her daughter’s friends into her home and it was the place to be, where everyone felt at home.

As a grandmother, she was very involved in all of their lives and would do anything to support them, including, chaperoning field trips, attending recitals and games, and was always there for them. Betty was proud of her grandchildren, and they know what a vital role she played in their lives. When her grandchildren became parents, her heart grew even more as a great-grandmother.

She is predeceased by her loving daughter, Trish Gori, and brothers, Bub and Donny Carter. To continue her memory is her cherished family: daughter, Debbie Anderson of Glenville; grandchildren, Lauren Anderson (David Oakes), Lenny Fletcher (Chantel Roberts) and Jonathan (Maegan) Howarth; great-grandchildren, Olive and Scout Fletcher; sisters, Barb Reed and Judy Carter;
