Obituary of Dorothy Hathaway

Dateline: Glenville

Dorothy Hathaway was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She left this world on October 12, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family and close friends after a brief illness.

She was born to Thomas and Helen Tyldesley on June 4, 1933.  She graduated from Watertown High School and attended St. Lawrence University and Watertown Business School.  She met her husband Joe at her sister’s wedding as both were in the wedding party.  Married October 19, 1957 she raised 3 boys, which in our family was a full time job.  Active in the community, she was a Sunday School teacher at St. Andrews Church, Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteered at the Baptist Retirement Center.

She returned to the workforce after the boys were grown and finished her career at the Town of Glenville Highway Department retiring in 2000.

Dorothy loved to travel and was able to see Europe, Asia, Hawaii and Disney World among many destinations.  She and Joe enjoyed family summer vacations in York Beach, Maine and later their annual trips to Florida.  Additionally, she had many shared and memorable adventures with her bridge clubs.  She embraced those lifelong friendships and the joys that accompanied them.  Above all she was passionate about family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand children and looked forward to those get togethers.

Later in life she became a passionate New York Yankee fan and with family present was excited to see Aaron Judge hit the home run passing Roger Maris’ American League single season home run record

Predeceased by her parents, husband Joe, sisters Barbara and Jane.  Survived by a loving family, sons James (Lourdes), Andrew (Karen) Matthew (Debra).  Grandchildren, Grace, Adrian, Thomas, James, Katelyn and Ryan.   Great-Grandchildren Lola, Mia, Aubrey and Jillian. Nieces Sharon (Sherry) Leslie, Heather and Suzanne. The family wants to especially thank Rod Rowledge and family for their lifelong friendship.
