Obituary of Doreen I. Nieber

Doreen I. Nieber, 86, passed peacefully on November 1, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Scotia, NY to her late parents, Benjamin and Winifred (Witkowski) Gabis, she came from a strong Polish heritage. After graduating from Scotia High School, she met the love of her life, Henry R. Nieber, who was also a Polish boy! They were married at St. Joseph’s Church in 1954.

In the late 1950s, Henry and Doreen built their forever home in Glenville, NY. There they raised their family and hosted countless parties and holiday gatherings. Doreen loved her home, she took pride in decorating and maintaining a beautiful home. She was a wonderful cook and brought the entire family together for a delicious meal and good conversation.

As her children were attending school at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD, Doreen worked for Carl Company in Schenectady and Glenville. She worked as the bookkeeper, but also enjoyed her time behind the makeup counter.

Doreen lived for her family, she was an active mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, sewing, canning vegetables from her gardens, and relaxing on her front porch with Henry.

Her family will always remember Doreen’s loving personality. They will cherish the annual family trips to Cape Cod and the most memorable family trip to Hawaii.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Henry; brother, Raymond Gabis; and granddaughter, Kimmy Hebert. To continue her memory are her children, Coleen (Dan) Churchill, Arlene (George) Hebert and Henry Nieber; grandchildren, Casey (Chad) Hotaling, Danny Churchill, Buzz (Megan) Hebert, Kari and Faith Nieber; cherished great-grandchildren, Ryann and Will Hotaling; sister-in-law, Florence Gabis.

Family and friends are welcomed to St. Adalbert Cemetery on Saturday, November 5th at 11 AM for a graveside service to celebrate and honor Doreen and Henry. Henry will be bestowed military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boston Children's Hospital, to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215-5301 or to Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree St NE Suite 600, Atlanta, GA 30309. Online condolences may be made at glenvillefuneralhome.com
