Obituary of George Kopchik

George Kopchik, 92, of Charlton passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 4, 2022.

 

Born in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY to his late parents, Michael and Anna (Pirhalla) Kopchik. George grew up in Rome, NY and graduated from Rome Free Academy. From a young age, George was athletic, his ability and talent earned him a sports college scholarship. He continued his education at Clarkson College of Technology.

 

George honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

 

For 42 years, he was a dedicated employee of General Electric working as a mechanical engineer. During this time, he worked most of his career at Knolls Atomic Power Lab, where he retired from in 1994.

 

In 1954, he married the former, Margaret Seman in his hometown, Hastings-on-Hudson. Together they raised their family in their beloved home in Charlton, NY. George was a very active father, who supported his children in everything they did. Throughout his life, George remained passionate for sports, he coached many of his kid’s teams. He was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan.

 

He was an active member of the Church of Immaculate Conception in Glenville, NY, his faith and sense of community was very important to him and Marge. The most important element of George’s life was his family, he would never miss a chance to be with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family will look back on fond memories from the holidays, camping in the great outdoors, and especially George’s knack for nearly tipping the canoe over.

 

Predeceased by his son, Peter Kopchik; brothers, Michael and John Kopchik; as well as sister, Mary Rubino.

 

To continue George’s memory is his sons, Michael (Wendy) Kopchik and Joseph (Kim) Kopchik; daughter, Susan Kopchik; grandchildren, Kathleen (Cody) Moore, Keri Kopchik, Kira Kopchik, and Casey Kopchik; great-grandchildren, Landon, Jameson and Caden Moore.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Immaculate Conception on Saturday, November 12th at 11 AM. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
