Obituary of Sandra L. Berning

Sandra L. Berning, 82, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2022, at Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center.  Born February 14, 1940 in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late George and Leonora (Montrym) Hill. 

A lifelong resident, she graduated from Mont Pleasant High School's Class of '58. Sandra received her bachelor's degree from SUNY Albany in 1962. She was a teacher of English for one year at Draper High School before starting a family with her first daughter, Kimberly, and became a homemaker.  Affectionately known as "Mrs. B" to her children's friends, she was always known to have treats (popcorn, chips, popsicles, kool-aid, etc) ready to be enjoyed by all!

Sandra was a part of the Duanesburg & Princetown Seniors and the Mont Pleasant High School Band and Booster Club in which she and her late husband, William C. Berning, were extremely involved. Both had a passion for music and band which they passed down to their children. Sandra enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading, gardening and was an avid animal lover, especially horses. She supported giving to the ASPCA or Guiding Eyes for the Blind.  

The memories that Sandra held close to her heart were the ones she spent with her family,  especially while raising her three grandchildren, and her best friends that were made at the Summit at Glenwyck this past year.

Survivors include her loving children, Kimberly (Christopher) Spiewak, Scott (Brya) Berning and Karen (Patrick) Donworth; grandchildren, Shawn and Steven Spiewak and Nikki St. Cyr; her brother and best friends Gerald (Ann) Hill and a host of lifelong and best friends.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, Nov. 19th from 4:00-6:00 PM at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Scotia-Glenville.  A  Celebration of Life service will commence at 6:00PM.  Burial private at Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.  Please consider a memorial gift in Sandra's name to any local animal organization of one's choosing.
