Obituary of David P. Shimkus

David P. Shimkus, 80, of Englewood FL., passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Venice On The Isle Tidewell. David was born February 19, 1942 in Schenectady NY. He was the son of the late John and Amy (Brazas) Shimkus. He was a graduate of Niskayuna High School, class of 1960.

 

In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until 1966. He spent the next 38 years at the General Electric Co in Schenectady NY. He held several different positions during his employment.

 

David loved the outdoors! Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, traveling and sharing some of his best stories with others. He also spent a lot of time in the garden and produced the best pineapples in Florida.

 

David is survived by the love of his life, Carol (Hinse), whom he married Aug 22 1964 after a 5 year courtship. He is also survived by his daughter Shari Shimkus (Michelle Teerlinck), his son David Shimkus, Jr. (Kelly Piazza) and his son Jeffrey Shimkus (Tanya Bissaillon). He is also survived by his adoring granddaughters, Ava Shimkus, Alayna Shimkus, Alea Shimkus.

 

He was predeceased by his sisters Mary-Ann Waters and Sandra Carocari. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 20th from 4 to 6 PM at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Scotia. On Monday, November 21st, a committal service with military honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will begin at 2:30 PM. A procession to Saratoga National will leave Glenville Funeral Home parking lot, please arrive at 1:15 PM.
