Obituary of William Bailey

William R. Bailey, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on October 11, 2013. Bill died at Kingston Hospital at the age of 88, with his beloved family at his side. Originally from Woodbury, NY, he had spent the last 30 years living in Stone Ridge. He was the son of the late Samuel and Florence Bailey. Bill was the last Bailey born in Baily Town and his ancestors have been traced back to the Revolutionary War. Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife of 66 years, Faith (Fay), and their twin daughters, Violet Schimikowski and Linda (Tony) Loewy; grandson Clem (Kim) Schimikowski and their children, Emily and Clem Jr.; grandson Bill (Heather) Schimikowski and their children, Greyson, Saylor, and Elliana: granddaughter Michelle (Ken) Martin and their children, Alia and Kira; and grandson Jeffrey (Jess) Loewy. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Clem Schimikowski. Bill served as a staff sargeant in the European Theatre of Operations for 22 months during WWII. He retired as a Police Chief of the Town of Woodbury in 1983. He was a very active member of the community. Bill was a former Master of the Woodbury Masonic Lodge, an Honorary Life Member of Woodbury American Legion, a Life Member of the New York State Association of Police Chiefs. He was also a lifelong member of Woodbury Field and Stream, Woodbury Ambulance, the Highland Mills Fire Company, and the Woodbury Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill was a graduate of Central Valley High School. Private services were held on October 19th. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the charity of one's choice in his name.
