Obituary of Elizabeth F. Gillespie

Speculator- Elizabeth F. Gillespie passed away peacefully on November 24, 2022 at the age of 92. "Liz", as she was known to many or "Ebbie" as she was known to family members, was born February 7, 1930 in New York City as the first daughter to Swiss immigrants William and Frieda Funfschilling. She earned a BA degree from Beaver College and had a professional career in human resources working for a department store called Korvettes as well as for the Girl Scouts of America both out of New York City.  After marrying Donald J Gillespie she "retired" to Speculator, NY where she was active in the community running Speculator Spirits for nearly 40 years. Liz/Ebbie enjoyed entertaining, travel and was extremely well read on most any subject.  She was predeceased by her stepson Brian Gillespie this past year.  She is survived by her 2 sisters Helen Armstrong and Judith Chickering-Kelsch as well as her niece's and nephew's Ruth Leadley, William Armstrong, Richard Armstrong, David Chickering, Beth Chickering and her stepson Kevin Gillespie.  A memorial service will be organized by her family and held in the spring.  In lieu of flowers (which she so very much enjoyed), Liz/Ebbie asked to have donations sent to the Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
