Obituary of Marie Stern

Marie Stern (Conoscenti), 84, of Glenville, passed away December 4, 2022 at Ellis Hospital. She was born in Schenectady, NY and lovingly raised by her parents, Michael and Santa "Sadie" Mogavero Conoscenti. She grew up on Schenectady Street and was a '56 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Marie married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Stern on August 8, 1964, a ceremony held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Monsignor Anthony Spina, presiding.

Marie moved to Glenville in 1966. She helped in raising two fabulous children, It was time to enter the workforce and Marie became a stenographer working at G.E. for 19 years, retiring in 1995. The Stern's were charter members of the Church of the Immaculate Conception (1971). She was an avid knitter and crocheter and met many longtime friends in clubs and other activities. Marie was also an excellent cook, appreciated by her family and those close to her. In later years she enjoyed casino gaming as it became popular in the area. The Stern's loved traveling, especially to Cape Cod, Florida, and Montreal (old Canada). On one of their visits, they were introduced to the president of the Canadian Railroad. a lasting friendship ensued with him and his wife.

Left behind to cherish memories of a dear lady are her husband Richard Stern, their daughter Kathi Marie Hughes and son Richard Stern Jr; five grandchildren, Joshua, Colin, Brenton, Adam and Kelsey.

Relatives and friends may call at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Sunday, December 11th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (Dec. 12) at 10 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville with Fr. Thomas Konopka officiating. A procession will then follow to the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville (town of Saratoga). Committal prayers at 12:00 noon.
