Obituary of Betty L. Safford
Betty L. Safford, passed peacefully in her sleep on her 95th birthday, January 11, 2023.
She was born in the beautiful Adirondacks of Wilmington, NY to her late parents, Leslie and Mabel (Stringham) Lawrence. A 1946 graduate of Lake Placid High School, she moved to the Capital Region area to attend Mildred Elley for secretarial school. Shortly after, she married George C. Tremblay. In 1969, George sadly passed away, Betty was blessed with their 3 daughters, the loves of her life.
Throughout her life, Betty was a hard worker who enjoyed helping others. She worked for various law firms and was an important role in the Schenectady Central School District as the school secretary.
In 1976, she married James “Jim” R. Safford. In the late 1970s, the couple moved to Wilmington, Delaware where their love for travel began. They traveled the world to Russia, Austria, Paris, Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, they also visited nearly all 50 states, including visits to Arizona, Hawaii and a memorable Alaskan cruise. As a couple, they were inseparable, the family has found peace in knowing Betty and Jim are together again.
In 2000, Betty and Jim returned home to their children and cherished grandchildren and settled in Scotia, NY. Betty’s grandchildren became the light of her life, and later in life her great-grandchildren, whom she would chase around the house in her 80s. Her family was the most important part of her life, their family always had fun together, they made great memories during their many trips to Disney World.
Over the years Betty was given a cherished nickname at the Atrium in Glenville, “Betty Boo”, from her dedicated nurse aides, Patty, Karen, Shanta, and especially Sasha, who became like family.
Predeceased by her husbands, George and Jim; as well as her 10 siblings.
She is survived by her children, Michele (Ron) Wilson, Linda Tremblay and Lisa Tremblay; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Kessler and Heather Wilson; great-grandsons; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
