Obituary of Ruth E. Quinn (Herwerth)
She was born in Schenectady on October 29th, 1939 to Graham and Catherine Herwerth. She graduated from Nott Terrace High Schenectady in 1957 and from Keuka College in 1959. After a long productive life, she died in Ellis Hospital, Schenectady NY on January 16th, 2023 following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband Frank X Quinn - Glenville, married Dec 1965, her son Frank G. Quinn - Hope, Alaska, her daughter - Catherine A Bryson - Glenville, her grandchildren - Shelby and Elijah Bryson - Glenville, and two of her sisters, Roberta Gagnon - Loudonville, and Marcia Bramhall - Utica. Her passion and greatest love was her family.
She was employed by the Schenectady Boy Scouts of America,the Visual/Technology department at West Point, US ARMY Recruiting Command, Albany NY, and Schenectady Community Ministries (formerly SICM). She was an avid volunteer with agencies such as Family and Community Services in Ft. Benning USA and Augsburg Germany, Glenville Senior Citizens Center, Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Glenville, SiCM food pantry, “Souper”bowls, CROP walk, Concerned for Hungry Board, Schenectady County Food Providers, Equinox, and Glenville’s Planning and Zoning Commission. She was very active with hobbies and sports. She enjoyed painting, bowling, golfing, playing cards & games with friends and family, traveling, reading, the Red Hats, theater, music and occasional visits to casinos. While younger, growing up in Schenectady, she enjoyed skating, the library (book-binding), field hockey and was a majorette and a swim instructor.
Calling hours will be held at Glenville Funeral Home from 2-4 PM on Sunday January 22, 2023. The funeral service will be held the following day on Monday, January 23rd at 11 AM at Trinity Presbyterian on Swaggertown Road, Scotia with burial following at Memory Gardens, reception at 2 PM at Turf Tavern Scotia for family and friends.
