Obituary of Harvey Bussell

Glenville - Harvey Bussell, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on January 19, 2023.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first.  Born in Newark, New Jersey on March 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Barney and Lena Bussell.    He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Sheila Bussell. 

Harvey was a proud veteran who served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army in the 32^nd Regiment, 7^th Infantry Division, Heavy Mortar Company in Korea.  After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Rutgers University, he worked for Riley Chemical Corporation and the Atomic Energy Commission in New Jersey before moving to Glenville in 1965.  Harvey graduated from RPI with a master’s degree in environmental engineering.  He worked for General Electric and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory for the remainder of his career. 

After his retirement he spent time traveling the world with his wife and good friends as well as spending time with his family at his camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake. He also volunteered in the GE Elfun Computer Rehab of Schenectady group.  Other hobbies included ham radio, Lionel trains, electronics, golf, boating, swimming, reading, music and movies.

Harvey was a kind man with a great sense of humor.  He loved to joke with family and friends and had an endless supply of corny elephant jokes for his grandchildren.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents and brother, Irwin.  His loving presence will be missed by his survivors which include his daughter Conni (Charles) Birri of Westerville, Ohio; his sons Mitchell (Iliana) Bussell of New Hartford, Connecticut and Stuart (Mirle) Bussell of Carlsbad, California. Beloved “Papa” is also survived by his grandchildren Samantha Birri (Kyle) Frobose and Tony (Kasia) Birri, Jacob and Zachary Bussell and Dalia and Noah Bussell. 

The family extends sincere gratitude to Harvey’s compassionate care team at Community Hospice and to the friends and neighbors that reached out during his last few months.

A funeral service will be held at 9 am on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at The Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, Glenville, NY 12302.  Burial will be private.
