Peter Keegan Sr.

Obituary of Peter Keegan Sr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Keegan Sr. on Monday, January 23, 2023.  He was a loving and devoted father and friend to all whose lives he touched. He left us while sleeping peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence in Scotia, NY. He was in his 73rd year.

Pete was the beloved husband and best friend of Beverly Keegan and loving father of Col. Peter (Stephanie) Keegan Jr., Kirsten (Michael) Nichter and Katie (David) De Vito and his furbaby, Emma Louise.

Pa was the proud grandfather to Conor, Madison, Aidan, Morgan, Alice, Isabella, Luca, John and Courtney and great grandfather to Penelope and Hazel.

Pete is also survived by his sister Mary (Joseph) Penarczyk; sister-in-law Ruth Evers, brother-in-laws Jackie Mahar and Marty Mahar, and his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was the son of the late James and Alice Keegan of Troy, NY. He was predeceased by his brother James G. Keegan.

Pete was born in Troy, NY, raised his family in Scotia, NY and spent winters in Pinellas Park, Fl after retiring from New York State after 32 years. After retiring, he continued to work part time for Catholic Charities for 10 years.

Pete was the most affectionate, loving, funny, proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Pete, knew just how much he loved his family above all else, golfing with friends, watching boxing matches on repeat, listening to music, investigating his Irish ancestry, and going to the beach in Florida. He was an avid golfer, baker, camper, and craftsman and loved sharing these hobbies with friends and family.

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” ~Muhammad Ali

Dad, you no longer have a pebble in your shoe. Go climb your mountain in peace and comfort. When you get to the top you will find the rest and relaxation you deserve, but don’t get too comfy because we need you to watch over all of us!!! We love you and miss you more than you know.
