Obituary of Lorraine D. Watson

Lorraine “Rainy” D. Watson, 96, entered into perpetual peace on Feb. 3, 2023 at Glendale Nursing Home.  Lorraine of Charlton Road, Scotia, was born in Milton, NY on June 11, 1926, the youngest of six children and was raised and educated in Galway, NY.  The loving daughter of the late Arthur and Louise DesRoches.   In November of 1947, she married her treasured husband James A. Watson, who predeceased her in March 1973.

Lorraine was a “Rosie the Riveter” having worked at General Electric Plant in Schenectady at multiple positions during WWII.   The two moved to Glenville in 1955.   There they always found time for their sons' various sporting events, including all of their many teammates and friends that found the Watson household a gathering place regardless of the ball season.

She was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville.  An avid gardener, baker and canner of fruits and vegetables from her family’s farm in Galway…there was always pies, cakes and breads for the family, neighbors and friends.  Her specialty was her annual making dozens of assorted Christmas Cookies and the always questionable Fruit Cakes during the Holidays.   Lorraine took pride in being a stay-at-home mom and cherished her most gratified accomplishment, her family.   She had a passion for all animals, especially her garden bird watching and our family and the neighbors’ dogs.

As a second career, she became a traveling Home Health Caregiver, to the community and to our aging family members.   Besides James, Lorraine was predeceased by her brothers, Arthur, Charles, Marshal and Clyde DesRoches, her sister Bea Denison. Survivors include sons Michael Watson (Laura) of Draper UT, and James Watson of Glenville, NY.  As per Lorraine’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.  A mass will be celebrated in her name at the Church of Immaculate Conception 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville NY on Friday Feb. 10th @ 9:00 AM.  A private burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

The family will be forever grateful to the staff, Nurses and Doctors of Glendale Home for their compassion and care of our mother.  A special thanks to the Church of the Immaculate Conception Pastoral Care Coordinator Fran, Rachel, and Father Tom & Father Leo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pastoral Care Ministry in care of the Immaculate Conception 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville NY, The Animal Protection Foundation of Glenville www.animalprotective.org , or to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org/donation.
