Obituary of Joan A. Peugh

Scotia- Joan A. Peugh, 82, of Scotia passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Born on September 29, 1940, in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and May (Saladino) Hoyle.

Joan was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Galway High School and Ellis Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1961. She worked as a registered nurse for Ellis Hospital for 45 years.

Joan started her love of gardening and developed her green thumb growing up on her father’s farm in Galway. From goats and chickens to flowers and vegetables, she took pride in her gardening. Like her mother, Joan especially loved growing African violets and competed in contests and participated in groups. She also loved growing hydrangeas and passed that love down to her daughter, Stacie. Like her father, she passed her passion for growing and storing fresh vegetables from her own organic garden to her son, Scott.

Joan liked to complete jigsaw puzzles and was also a sewer; making her children’s clothing when they were little. She was known for her baking, especially her chocolate mayonnaise cake and her Italian cooking. Her agricultural skills followed into the kitchen, as she was passionate about cooking organically. For a long time, everything was homemade with her own homegrown ingredients, and she enjoyed living an all-natural lifestyle. Joanshared her love for health and organic eating by being a distributer for Shaklee Products. She loved dogs, especially Airedale Terriers. Joan was a rock in the family, an impeccable nurse, a wise ear always there for sound advice, homemaking & cooking or baking tips.  She watched every penny in the checkbook, made sure her children were raised to be good to other people, and gave all her love to her husband Roger, her children, granddaughter, family, & friends.

Even though she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she volunteered to be involved in studies in hopes of finding more information about this irreversible disease, or treatments and medications to ease the symptoms..

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her stepsister, Eileen Koegler.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Roger Peugh; son, Scott Peugh; daughter, Stacie Peugh; granddaughter, Stephanie Peugh and close friends, George & Judy Rowinksiand Ben & Helene Stachewicz.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, please support Joan’s dedication to medical research through The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
