Obituary of Peter Myers Empie

Peter Myers Empie, 78, peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family on February 14, 2023. Born in Niskayuna, NY to his late parents, Myron Wesley and Arlene Riva (Dye) Empie. A 1963  graduate of Draper School, Peter went on to study at Hudson Valley Community College, and eventually went on to earn a degree from Union College in Electrical Engineering and to work as an engineer at New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation for more than 35 years.

 

In 1982, he married the love of his life, Karla Milavec. They raised their family in Scotia in their beloved home of 41 years.

 

Peter was a family man, and very involved in his children's lives. For many years, he was his son's Boy Scout leader. He also had many interests including hobby trains, furniture making, blacksmithing, raising fish, sailing, gardening, camping, and hiking, and introduced his children to these pursuits with varying degrees of success. 

 

Peter was known for his unfailing sense of humor and joyful laughter. His smile was known to light up a room. He was also known for his ability to fix anything, his loud singing voice, his love of chocolate pudding, and his powerful ability to make his family feel safe, supported, and loved. 

 

Peter had a strong faith, his belief in God and the power of his love brings peace to his family. He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Rotterdam, NY.

 

Predeceased by his loving daughter, Christine Empie; siblings, Myron "Sonny" Empie, Mary Keller.

 

To continue Peter's memory is his cherished wife, Karla Empie; beloved children, Teri (David) Lamitie, Shaun (Jean) Empie and Kimberly Empie; as well as his adored grandson, Sergent Lamitie; and sisters, Ruth Fazzone and Margaret Neale.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace on Friday, March 3rd at 10:30 AM. A reception to celebrate Peter’s life will follow Mass.
