James Alexander

Obituary of James M. Alexander

James “Jim” M. Alexander, 66, passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on March 20, 2023. Born in Troy, NY to his late parents, James and Inez (Kortz) Alexander, on May 18th, 1956. He graduated from Troy High School.

After graduation, Jim went on to Hudson Valley Community College until he realized his talent and passion was baking, where taste outweighs any college degree! For many years, he worked in the Capital Region as a baker; popular places included: the Hutch House located at the Egg in Albany, NY, Perrotta's Bakery in Troy, NY, and his longest culinary experience was at the Grand Union in Clifton, Park—where his working friendship became love to Nicki Leet.

Nicki and Jim became inseparable; they shared a love of baking and opened their own business, Hearth to Home Bakery, in Clifton Park. In 2010, their desire for warmer weather and living near the beach became a reality when they moved to Pembroke Pines in Florida.

In 1979, Jim’s life changed forever when he became a father. He raised his girls in Stillwater, NY, before moving to Florida and later moved back to the area in 2017. Jim will be remembered for his love of being in the kitchen and his appreciation for classic rock, especially the  Rolling Stones! He was a hard worker; no matter how long his work day was, he always saved time at the end of the day to sit back, relax and blast his music.

In 2020, a part of Jim’s heart was lost when his daughter, Melanie “Mel” Alexander, passed away. It brings the Alexander family peace in knowing they are together.

To continue Jim’s memory is his love of 33 years, Nicki A. Leet; daughters, Shannon Alexander and Amanda (Kellin) Rowlands; grandchildren, Ganjah Boyce, Sonai Cummings, Phoenix Danish, Maddeson and Lola Rowlands; brothers, Angelo Alexander and Rick Alexander; sister, Denise Alexander-Eng; as well as numerous friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Sunday, March 26th from 5 to 7 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Suite 745, Boston, MA 02215.
