I grew up in Saranac Lake and was lucky to have a wonderful family and what I considered a second family. I met Deb Hall in school and we became fast friends , we remain dear friends to this day. I spent many hours at the Hall house and Mr. And Mrs. Hall were always so welcoming. We had lots of sleep overs, trips to the camp in Onchiota to swim in the lake, and going blueberry picking. My first job was with the Hall’s working at Berkeley Delicatessen- what wonderful lessons I learned. We were always busy, the homemade bread, soups and pies were legendary. Even when it was crazy Bea would have a smile on her face, she knew everyone and would ask how they were and take time to really listen. She was always positive and kind to me even the time I carelessly dropped a giant pan on my foot and passed out in the dishwasher!
One of my very first vacations was with the Halls - I still remember going to Sturbridge Village and then shopping at a Mall.
Deb and I went to the same college. Bea would make Whoopie Pies and send us care packages. They are still the absolute best I have ever eaten. We would all gather in Deb’s room and eat to our hearts content. I am sure Bea had a million things to do but that was the type of person she was- make time to send some homesick teens amazing treats!
I just used some knitted towels Bea made for me a few years ago and thought what an amazing person she was, RIP Bea.❤️
