Susan Kelly

Obituary of Susan J. Kelly

Rexford- Susan J. Kelly of Coburg Village, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023, after a brief stay
at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland, NY.
Born on January 8, 1947, in Allegany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Helen A.
(Moranski) Yurek.
Mrs. Kelly attended Little Bona's Elementary School, Allegany Central School, and graduated from
Allegany High School in 1965. She moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. She then returned home to Allegany and worked for Grants and Montgomery Ward as a
store detective.
On March 6, 1971, at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, she married James M. Kelly. She and Jim
were introduced by mutual friends, courted, and once she knew she could tame her fun-loving Irishman,
they married and moved to Olean, NY, where they enjoyed their time together and traveled before
they welcomed their daughter, Bridget.
Mrs. Kelly was a devoted wife, fastidious homemaker, and good neighbor to those in need. When in the
company of friends, her laugh could be heard ringing out loud and strong. Along with her family, she
was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, a lover of Olean's vibrant Irish culture
and a member of the Olean Rotary Club. She enjoyed painting ceramics, crafting baskets, cultivating
flower beds, and knitting & crochet. She gave selflessly to the care of her parents, especially her mom,
as well as to Jim, before their passing.
In 2008, Mrs. Kelly moved to Clifton Park, NY, after the birth of her first grandchild, Veronica, and
joined the parish of St. Edward the Confessor and the Clifton Park Rotary Club. She continued to create
and share her gift for knit & crochet when she joined St. Edward’s Prayer Shawl Ministry. Her talent for
baby blankets was lovingly shared with all the new babies in her extended family, as well as the babies
of her family's friends and co-workers. Dog sweaters were made at special request. She particularly
enjoyed "Grandma Days" where four generations of mothers and daughters, and her grandson Leo,
would get together for lunch and shopping.
Mrs. Kelly joined Coburg Village in Rexford, NY, in 2019, where she discovered a love of Rummikub,
Diamond Art, and a very special group of friends with whom she enjoyed attending social events and
dinners - coordinated attire, the occasional string of pearls, and cocktails were required.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by her daughter, Bridget Kelly (Samuel) Stein of Alplaus, NY, and her
grandchildren, Veronica Wren and Leo James, who will dearly miss their "GG" and her meatballs and
sauce.
