Obituary of Clara A. (Pannone) Gwozdz

Schenectady- Clara A. Gwozdz, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2023. 

Born on October 19, 1929, in Monte San Biagio, Italy, Clara came to the United States at the age of seven with her parents, Dominick and Josephine Pannone. 

Clara was a Crane Street icon, working over 60 years at the Mont Pleasant Bakery and was known by many. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and married Paul J. Gwozdz in April of 1955 and lived and raised their family on Bridge Street in Schenectady their entire life.
Clara took pleasure in simple things such as shopping with her daughters and her weekly hairdressing appointment with Vicki Grygas-Nardini at the Victoria Rose Beauty Salon.
Clara is predeceased by her husband Paul, son-in-law, Patrick Opel, and four siblings, Pasquale (Marie Foote) Pannone, Theresa (Lawrence) Cafferillo, Mary (Sabatino) Capobianco and William Pannone and sister-in-law, Lorraine (Paul) Sellie.

She is survived by two daughters, Paula A. Opel and Donna M. Venezio (William) and grandson, William Ryan Venezio.  Clara is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks goes to Pasquale and Patricia Miranda, Dominick Pannone, Cynthia DiThomas and Dennis Donoghue who showed their kindness in her later years. Also the Opel family who doted on her as well. Lastly, her neighbors, Pat, Chris, Raylene, Roland, Jasmine, Mark, Tanya and Winston, that looked out for Clara for many years after Paul passed.
Funeral services will be private and burial will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
