Richard Baclawski

Obituary of Richard J. Baclawski

Richard J. Baclawski, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 30, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Born on February 21, 1954, in Poland, Richard's life was a testament to courage, hard work, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

As a young man, Richard served in the Poland Navy. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Janina Kohnke. From the moment their first daughter was born, Richard knew he had to create a better life for them. Armed with unwavering determination and a relentless work ethic, Richard and his family made their way to the United States 36 years ago in search of prosperity and freedom. Richard's courage and selflessness were evident in his decision to leave his home country to pursue a brighter future for his children.

In America, Richard quickly established himself as a talented craftsman. For over 25 years, he owned and operated his own jewelry business, Baclawski Jewelers. Even after retiring, Richard continued to create handmade custom pieces, showcasing his passion for his craft and his commitment to excellence.

Richard's interests extended beyond his work as a jeweler. He built his cherished home in Pattersonville, proving that no challenge was too great for him to overcome. Richard's love for the outdoors led him to enjoy fishing, kayaking, and spending time in nature. Throughout his life, he honored his Polish culture and proudly continued the beautiful traditions of his homeland.

Richard's legacy lives on through his loving wife, Janina Baclawski; his daughters, Maggie (Brian) Pomeroy and Agnes (Michael) Sutton; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Ryan, Steven, and Nichole; as well as his sisters in Poland,  Matojorzata and Katarzyna. He is predeceased by his parents Joachim and Halina (Baclawska) Plotka, and his brother, Waldemar.

In the face of adversity, he never wavered and always put his family first. His story will undoubtedly inspire those who hear it to pursue their dreams with passion and determination.
