Obituary of Charles Smith

Charles R. Smith "Charlie", 67, of Onderdonk Rd. passed away peacefully at his home, November 4, 2013 with his family by his side after a brave fight against cancer. Born in Schenectady on March 29, 1946 to Irene (Duch) Smith and the late Robert of Port St. Lucie, FL. He graduated from Linton High School's class of 1964, as well was a graduate of Albany Business College. He married Barbara J. Meluch on February 12, 1983. Charlie worked in accounts payable at General Electric for 26 years and retired from Hanley Sign Co. in Latham as an installer. Most recently he was a driver for Lowe's in Halfmoon for the past 5 years. He spent summers since childhood at Sacadanga Lake. Charlie enjoyed vegetable gardening, camping and was a avid fan of NASCAR and attended at least one race a year with his grandson fifteen years in a row. He had a natural affinity for fixing or building anything. Survivors include his beloved wife, Barbara J. Smith; two daughters, Charleen Smith of Sanford, FL and Kristin Meluch of Glenville, and a son Robert C. Smith of Ashville, NC; He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren; Darian and Maria Jehle of Glenville and Autumn Smith of Charlotte, NC. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday (November 7) at 7:30 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. East Glenville. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call on the family prior to the service from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
