Obituary of Patricia A. Biggica

It is with a great heaviness in our hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia A. Biggica as of May 24th 2023. Lovingly referred to as “Nana” by those who loved her most, she was surrounded by countless family and friends in her final days. A lifetime resident of Schenectady county, Nana may have not moved far from home, but her years were filled with many magnificent trips around the globe with her husband Joe Biggica. They were married for 36 wonderful years until his passing in 2001, but her love for him continued on even until her last day; she couldn’t wait to finally see him again. Outside of her family, Nana had a vibrant social life and was lovingly referred to as the “congresswoman” of Schenectady as it was a guarantee she would bump into a friend, or a few, on any given outing. She was deeply passionate about her career, a 40 year post as an Administrative Assistant at Ellis Hospital, which she continued even in “retirement” by often volunteering her time. If there’s one thing about Nana that everyone knows, it’s how much her Polish heritage meant to her. A frequent face amongst the Polish-fests across the capital region and a lifetime communicant of The Church of St. Adalbert, Nana served on the Rosary Society and often facilitated community and social events even well into retirement. She had many passions in her very full life, far too many to list here, but few things meant more to her than her loving family. She will be missed greatly by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Left to honor Patricia is her daughter Darcy Biggica – Oleksiak (Michael Wood) and her grandchildren Patrick Oleksiak (Shannon Gizzi) and Jaiden Wood (Michael Morales), her niece and nephews April, Eddie and Dennis Dunbar (Angel) along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

In addition to her husband, Patricia was predeceased by her sister and best friend Barbara Dunbar.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 4 – 7 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 9:00 am at the Church of St. Adalbert, 550 Lansing Street, Schenectady, NY 12303. Patricia will be laid to rest alongside her husband Joseph at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Schenectady.
