Marion Black

Obituary of Marion Black

Marion Black, 78, formerly of Middle Grove, NY, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. Marion was born in Whitehall, NY, the daughter of the late William and Marion Vivian (Hale) Van Liew. She was comforted by her daughter and the loving team of 2 Victoria. Words cannot say enough to thank the team of Wesley 2 Victoria memory care unit. Their compassion and understanding exceeded the requirements of anything expected. The care and love received by Marion was evident down to her final moments and her family's gratitude seems inadequate. Upon leaving Whitehall after the family grocery store closed during the Depression, Marion lived for a short time in Charleston, SC. Upon the death of her father, she returned to Schenectady with her mother where she graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She started her career with GE until her marriage with the late Lawrence Black. Marion worked for a time with Littlefield Realty and then retired after 20 years with St. Clare's Hospital in patient accounts. She also put her care-giving talents to work as a home health care aid for many years. Marion was a very hard worker to a fault but she had a few things that she enjoyed to the fullest for which she will always be remembered: family vacations which she continued on her own to Wellfleet, Cape Cod, taking photos of every moment to remember, finding cherished objects to decorate her home and remind her of her travels, and her Hondamatic motorcycle so she could take off and spend time exploring the great outdoors. Her son, Michael, left too soon, but as Marion loved and protected her children, Mike was also instilled with the same compassion and devotion of protection to keep an eye out for her and will be waiting for her with open arms. Marion had requested no calling hours or service. Marion will join her parents, her half-brother Clifton Van Liew, and her son Michael Black who left us earlier this year. Marion leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Black) and John Kelly of Poestenkill, and her niece, Carol (Van Liew) Brown of Florida. We will keep her in our hearts as she was a unique individual with a big heart.
