Obituary of Emmett Kinney

Scotia - Emmett William "Bill" Kinney, 87, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday November 12, 2013. Bill was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Thomas J. and Beatrice Hayes Kinney. Upon graduation from high school, Bill entered the U.S. Navy during WW II serving with the Pacific Fleet as a Radarman Second Class aboard the USS Cushing Destroyer. After his tour of duty, Bill married Ruth Eloise Jacobs on October 2, 1948. He was an assistant manager at the A & P Supermarket on Union St, retiring in 1980 after 34 years of service to the company. Bill was a parishioner of the City View Church, worked for the City Mission for six years, and was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid reader who enjoyed history, liked to take walks, and had an interest in classic cars. Bill was predeceased by his wife Ruth. He is survived by his son Mark A. Kinney (Ann ) of Apalachin, NY, daughter Therese "Terri" Kosten (Thomas) of Bellaire, TX, and sister Mary Rourke of Albany. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two nephews and two nieces. Funeral services will begin at 10 am on Monday November 18, 2013 at City View Church, 132 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family at the funeral home from to on Sunday November 17, 2013. Interment will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to City View Church, 132 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY.
