Obituary of Gerald Seypura
Gerald D. (Gerry) Seypura 72, of Glenville passed away suddenly at his home on November 12, 2013.
Gerald was a member of the community of Glenville for eleven years, but lived in the Schenectady area most of his life. He was an active member of the Niskayuna Fire Department for twenty years as a volunteer fireman. He was also an avid NRA advocate.
Gerald was retired from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets after twenty five years of service. Upon his retirement, he decided to remain busy and became a school bus driver for the special needs children of Schenectady County with Brown Transportation Company until his passing.
Gerald served in the Army National Guard for over twenty years; served in the Persian Gulf, and was a liaison for the Department of Military and Naval Affairs administration, as the Public Affairs Coordinator. Gerald served as Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America and has been an active member, leader and
contributor to the organization for over sixty years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Glenville where he found friendships and commradery he so enjoyed as well as the American Legion in Scotia
he so enjoyed.
Gerald also enjoyed baseball and frequently spent time at the Cooperstown Hall
of Fame for games and special events. He was a true Yankees fan.
Gerald graduated from St. Columbus High School, and after many years of
continuing education had secured a Ph.D in education. He shared his wealth of
knowledge and opinion with many, articulately and with zeal. He very much
enjoyed books, Celtic music, photography and most especially spending time with
his loving family. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents Donald Seypura and Geraldine (Carr)
Seypura- Mahoney. He is survived by his brother Paul A. Seypura, sister-in-law
Janes Kress-Seypura of Malta, his sister Kathleen (Mahoney) DeNero of Glenville,
his niece Courtney Seypura Hartpence (Geoff Hartpence) and great nephew and
niece, Benjamin Keppler and Kiera Hartpence of Glenville. His nephews and nieces
are David N. DeNero (Ashley Kaplan) of Clifton Park, Kirk J. DeNero of
Schenectady, Ryan M. Seypura (Robin McMurphy) of Schenectady, niece Olivia R.
Naccarato of Glenville, and great nephews Jackson Blake DeNero and Carter Logan
DeNero of Clifton Park. As well, Gerald has many family and friends, all of
whom we are certain will miss his grand personality, generosity and candor. He
was known to all as a "great man" who gave to his country, family and friends,
devotion and loyalty always.
Gerald was a communicant and lector at St. John the Evangelist Church
Schenectady. He was an avid reader and shared his books with the Baptist
Retirement Community Center regularly.
His family is deeply grieving his loss and will keep him safely locked in their
hearts. They will miss him always and will remember him for the gentle man and
awesome family member that he was.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday November 18, 2013 at 10 am
from the Church St. John the Evangelist, 816 Union St. Schenectady, NY.
Relatives and friends are are invited to attend calling hours at the Glenville
Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. East Glenville on Sunday November 17 from 4 to 6
pm. Interment will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy-Schenectady,
Rd.
