Obituary of Kenneth Mealy

Kenneth D. Mealy Jr., 89, passed away peacefully November 20, 2013 at Ellis Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born in Schenectady on March 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Kenneth D. Mealy Sr. and Daisy Wilson Mealy. Ken was an airplane engine mechanic with the 19th Troop Carrier in WWII with the Army-Air Force. He served his country proudly from 1943-1946. Ken married the former Elizabeth Esposito on August 30, 1946. He worked for the General Electric Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1985 as a senior designer. Ken was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and was past president of the G.E. Apprentice Alumni organization. He was of the Protestant Faith. Ken held membership with the Free and Accepted Masons for many years. He was married 67 years, enjoying family and friends and spoiling his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, John Mealy in 1973 and his sister, Eleanor Niles in 2008. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at C-3 Glendale Home for exceptional care provided to Ken; also to the 2nd floor I.C.U. nurses and aides at Ellis Hospital, whose compassion was so deeply appreciated. Survivors include his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mealy; son, David S. Mealy (Diane) of West Suffield. CT; daughter, Kristine LoCascio (Anthony) of Galway Lake; grandsons, Noah John Mealy and Adam Kenneth Mealy; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Autumn Rose LoCascio. Funeral services Monday, November 25 at 11 a.m. at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville with the Rev. Kenneth Heckeler officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Glenville Funeral Home prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment with honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested contributions be made to the City Mission.
