Obituary of Franz Bigec

Franz Bigec, 73, of Spring Road, passed away suddenly at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, on December 1, 2013. Born in Germany, he grew up in Dortmund, GE and came to the United States in 1957. Franz's trade was an auto body technician and was admired for his expertise in restoring antique cars. Franz was employed by Marsh Hallman and DePaula Chevrolet for many years and retired in 2004 from Goldstein Subaru. Franz was a Champion in Judo contests in Germany as well as in the United States. He was on the USA Judo Olympic team in 1976, and for many years he helped to coach this sport. He enjoyed dancing throughout his life; especially the Viennese Waltz, the Jitterbug and various Polka styles. He belonged to the Albany German Club and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Esperance Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Automobilists of the Upper Hudson Valley Car Club as well as the Glenville Fish and Game Club. He is survived by two sons, Christian Bigec and Daniel Bigec, both of Glenville. Franz is also the grandfather of Ava and Austin. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, December 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Park Cemetery, Sacandaga Rd. in Scotia.
