Obituary of Jerry Alger

Jerry L. Alger, 66, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn with his beloved family by his side. He was born June 6, 1947 in Plattsburg, NY to Theresa (Babbie) Harris and the late Richard Alger. Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol Roberts Alger, their children Tammy Salorio (Manuel) of Burnt Hills, Michelle Alger of Albany and Amanda Rose (Norman) of Glenville; grandchildren Adam Salorio, Jacob Alger, Angelina Rose and Aidan Rose. He is survived by his stepmother Lillian Alger, and siblings Wayne Alger (Cindy), James Alger (Martha), Charlene Kowalowski, Diana Torta (John), Dennis Shelters (Donna), John Harris (Karen) and Regina Rogers (John). Jerry was predeceased by his stepfather John Harris and his niece Danyel Alger. Jerry was proud to serve in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967; he achieved an honorable rank of SP4. He was employed at General Electric in Schenectady as a machinist for 35 years, and retired in 2003. As an avid golfer, he held the Jerry Alger Open at Pioneer Hills for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post No. 1450, the Rotterdam Elks Lodge No. 2157, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Lake Worth Lodge No. 994. Jerry was also a past member of the Northland Toy Club and a social member of the East Glenville Fire Department. The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 3 to 7 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road Glenville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial in Jerry's honor will be held on Monday December 16, at the Church of Immaculate Conception at 10 am, located at 400 Saratoga Road in Glenville, NY. Burial with full military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1 pm.
