Obituary of William Whalen

William L. Whalen, 89, of Glenville NY, died peacefully August 22nd at home in the company of his family. Bill was born in Milford, Mass. the 7th of 8 children. After attending Dean Academy and MIT, Bill married Pauline Simpson on October 13, 1951 in Franklin, Mass. Bill took an insurance job with Liberty Mutual and began his life long career in insurance. Bill and Pauline moved to Scotia in 1960 when Bill joined Terbush &Powell. Bill was a terrific father and grandfather, a charitable community oriented man as well as an active member of the Immaculate Conception church in Glenville NY. He is best remembered for his wonderful laugh, his generosity, and his never quit attitude. Bill was predeceased in 2011 by his wife Pauline. He is survived by his sons, David Whalen of Glenville and William Whalen Jr. and his wife Katharine of Essex Junction, Vt.; his daughter, Suzanne Whalen and her husband Andrew Metrick of Westwood, N.J.; his brother Francis Whalen and wife Helga; cherished granddaughters, Christina, Lindsey, Heather and Beth. Uncle Bill is survived also by his beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. Like his wife Pauline, his greatest joy was to be in the company of family and friends. A wake will be held Friday August 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., East Glenville (off Route 50). A mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville at 10AM on Saturday August 25.
