Obituary of Margaret McNamara

Margaret Fiske McNamara "Peg", 87 of Scotia, formerly of Albany, NY and Melbourne Beach, FL, died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at her son's home in Scotia. Peg passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Born in Northfield, VT on July 13, 1926, the daughter of Charles Phillip Fiske and Florence Smith Fiske, her roots are traced back to the first English settler's from the Mayflower landing. She grew up in Northfield, a graduate in 1944 from Northfield High School. Peg worked for the "homefront" during the war effort in WWII. She later moved to Albany and worked in accounting for New York Telephone. She married John J. McNamara Jr. who was the chief law advisor for New York State Court of Claims. She became a homemaker following the birth of her son, John J. McNamara III. Mrs. McNamara did various volunteer work for St. Theresa of Avila Church and School as well as librarian work for Albany Academy. Following John's retirement, the couple moved to Melbourne, FL and returned to live in the Capital District in 1998 and then to Scotia with her son in 1999. John McNamara Jr. passed away in 1993. Peg was a member of the National Society of DAR, the Fisk(e) Family Association and the University Club Women's League in Albany. She was an avid bowler, artist, loved traveling; especially the beaches of Cape May, NJ and Racquet Lake. She is survived by her loving son John III, her daughter-in-law Margaret and her granddaughters: Shannon MargaretGrace and Shelby CatherineFaith McNamara. Peg leaves behind also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Wednesday 9:15 am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. East Glenville followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, 231 Second St.. Scotia where the Rev. Peter Russo will officiate the mass.Relatives and Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8pm in the Glenville Funeral Home. It has been requested memorial donations be made to the National Society of the DAR,1776 D Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20006-5392. Spring interment will be in the Village of Hancock, VT.
