Obituary of Anne Simonian

Anne Kathleen Simonian ("Nancy"), 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Born in Queens, NY on May 16th, 1942 to Norman and Mary Graf, she was raised in Bayshore, NY and graduated from SUNY-New Paltz. Nancy married the late John Simonian Sr. at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Bayshore, NY in 1964 and moved to Schenectady, NY. Soon after, they lived abroad in Bethune, France with their children and later relocated to Burnt Hills, NY. She stayed home and raised her five children and then put herself through graduate school earning her Master's in Social Work. Nancy worked as a social worker for Wildwood programs and Parsons Child and Family Center in Schenectady, NY. She also had her own practice in Schenectady, NY. She enjoyed traveling with her family, sewing, volunteering and was a very active member of the church community. Survivors include her mother Mary Graf (Farrell), her five children; James Simonian (Stephanie), John Simonian Jr, Melissa Rakvica (Steven), Amy MacGregor (Scott) and Peter Simonian. Nancy is the adored Nana of Sydney and Sarah MacGregor; Emma and Nathan Rakvica and Ava Simonian. She is the beloved sister of George Graf (Sylvia), MaryEllen Kirchner (Randy), Elizabeth O'Reilly (Robert) and Carolyn Moore (Richard). Nancy is also survived by her mother in-law Dixie Simonian. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and caring friends. Calling hours will be held from 3:00pm-5:00pm & 7:00pm-9:00pm on Thursday, March 6 at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 7 at 10:00am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville, NY 12302. In keeping with her generous spirit, contributions can be made to Wildwood Programs, 1190 Troy-Schenectady Rd., Latham, NY 12110 or to Hospice of Saratoga , 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
