Obituary of Richard Sitts

Richard Augustus Sitts, 84, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. He had been lovingly cared for at home for many years by his wife of 62 years, Carol. Born in Nelliston, New York, he was the son of the late Augustus and Anna Sitts. Richard was a 1947 graduate of Canajoharie High School and a 1951 graduate of Union College. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He worked for General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer from 1951 to1994. He was a proud member of IEEE, Numerical Control Society, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, where he was named a fellow in 1988. Richard was a choral vocalist and was a member of the Octavo Singers for 38 years. He often sang at local churches and enjoyed many summers as a member of the Saratoga Potsdam Choral Society. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC. Cape Cod was a favorite vacation spot. Some of his happiest times were spent with family at many gatherings over the years. Survivors include his beloved wife Carol Ehrcke Sitts; his children Dale Sitts, Laurel (Gary) Gugliuzza, Maureen Sitts (Scott Simmons) and Christine (Robert) Spittal. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nicholas and Justin Spittal, Johnna and Kelsey Simmons, Melissa Fitzpatrick, Breanna Cuttle, Anna and Sarah Gugliuzza and six great grandchildren. Richard was pre-deceased by his sisters Gladys Morey and Marion Leonard. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road , East Glenville. Relatives and friends are welcome and may call prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Park Cemetery , Sacandaga Rd., Scotia.
