Obituary of William Goddin

William Arthur Goddin, Sr., 70 of Glenville NY, passed away from pneumonia on Tuesday, March 18th at The Oaks at Mayview Nursing Home in Raleigh, NC. The son of the late Janice & Arthur Goddin, Jr., Bill was born July 22, 1943 in Middletown, NY. He was a 1961 graduate of Shaker High School in Latham, NY where he played football. He went on to earn his AAS in Engineering in 1964 from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. After college Bill enlisted in the Navy where he was the Educational Petty Officer of his company and earned the American Spirit Honor Medal for outstanding leadership. After recruit training he attended Engineering Aid School. As a "Seabee" in the Naval Construction Battalion he served 2 tours in Vietnam. He was stationed in Port Hueneme Ca., where he met and married his late wife Lin. When his enlistment was up they returned to NY and raised seven children. He retired from the Town of Glenville in 1999 after 25 years of service. During that time he held the positions of Town Engineer and Superintendent of the water and sewer department. His favorite activities included sailing, swimming, wood crafting and traveling. Survivors include his children Stacey E. (Christopher) Almy, Janice C. (Shonn) Isitt, Laura R. (James) Schuler, William A. (Kristin) Goddin, Jr., Jeffrey A. (Kimberly) Goddin, John C. (Denise) Goddin, and Robert G. Goddin. Two sisters Pamela G. (Owen) Bennett and Jill A. (Lamont) Edwards, and sixteen grandchildren; also survived by a niece and three nephews, many cousins and his special "ladyfriend", as he called her, Evelyn Knowlton. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife Linda L. Goddin, who passed away June 2, 1997. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5-7pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, Scotia, NY 12302. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871 where the Stratton Honor Guard will perform the military honors.
