Obituary of Edward Bunkoff
Edward D. Bunkoff, 98, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born in Rensselear, NY on September 4, 1915, the son of the late Frederick and Helen Huff Bunkoff. Ed was a graduate of the former Mt. Pleasant High School. He was married to Elizabeth Stoodley, "Betty", on June 11, 1942 at her church, St. John the Evangelist. From 1943 - 45, Ed served as a Sargent in the Army, serving with the 10th Mountain Division 2nd Battalion 87th Infantry in Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star. Subsequently, Ed worked 42 years as a draftsman for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. Over the years Ed and Betty owned and operated Snowy Acres Ski Area in Cobleskill from 1939 to 1967 and Ridgetop Winchester Gun Club in Pattersonville from 1969 to 1976. Ed was an avid skier and golfer well into his 90's.
After 65 years of marriage, Betty predeceased her beloved Edward on February 4, 2008; Ed was also predeceased by his daughter Janet E. Smith on February 25, 2013 Edward is survived by his devoted daughters; Susan H. Sage (Peter) of Naples, FL; and Lisa A. Doty (John) of Plantsville, CT. Ed also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ian Smith, Ashley and Stephanie Whelan.
On Thursday May 1, 2014, funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call at the Glenville Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday April 30. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Anthony's Cemetery, East Glenville.
