Obituary of Jack Hickey
Jack D. Hickey, 86, of Glenville, passed away May 7, 2014 at Ellis Hospital with his family at his side.
Born in Corning, NY on January 11, 1928 he was the son of the late Michael and Grace Hickey. Jack graduated from Albany State Teachers College and later earned his Masters degree in Teaching. He married the former K.Lorraine Pethybridge on July 18, 1953. Jack started out teaching social studies at Onieda school and later was assistant principal at Mont Pleasant High School. He was then principal at
Franklin,Riverside and Howe Elementary schools. He retired in 1989. Jack's school work brought him great fulfillment. He was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers and the VOLKSPORTERS Senior walking Group in Schenectady County. He is remembered as the longtime announcer for the Union College Hockey Team and later worked for the AHL during River Rats home games. Jack's hobby was collecting orchids and
antiques,and he often attended auctions throughout the northeast. He is best remembered as an extremely generous human being.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lorraine,sister Nancy,brother Allen, and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hickey. Survivors include three sons: Brian Hickey of Elyria, OH, Craig Hickey of Glenville and Jack Hickey II of Scotia; his sister Marge Searing of Colorado Springs, CO.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 1pm at Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady,1221 Wendell Avenue Schenectady, NY. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
