Obituary of Donald Dutt

Donald Edwin Dutt, 90, of Scotia passed away peacefully with his family by his side Thursday morning at Ellis Hospital. He was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the only child of Albertson and Ione Dutt.Don grew up in Sayre and after graduating from Sayre High School in 1942 enlisted in the air force as an aviation cadet pilot. Upon completion of his flight training, he became a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter pilot and left as a second lieutenant. After WW II, Don received his bachelor degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), graduating in 1950. During his college years, he was also employed as a student manufacturing engineer at the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Athens, PA. In July, 1950, after Donald married Maude Catherine Van Guilder, he began working for the General Electric Company in Johnson City, NY. He was the Manager of Manufacturing Planning in the Aeronautics & Ordinance Systems Division. During his 33 years of employment with GE, he held various roles. In 1956, Mr. Dutt transferred to manufacturing engineering services as a senior engineer for tool development. In 1962, was appointed manager of manufacturing engineer of the large jet engine department in Everett, MA. After which he was appointed manager of tool development for metals processing operation, manufacturing engineering services in Schenectady NY. During his employment with GE, he had written numerous technical publications throughout the country. He was a lifetime member of the ASME Manufacturing organization, and was a past chairman of the Chapter 20 society and member of the ELFUN Society. After his retirement from GE, he and his wife spent their winters in Tampa, Florida He was always very passionate about aviation, nature, photography, golf and his family. Donald was always an active member of the Episcopal Church wherever they lived, most recently, the Calvary Episcopal Church in Burnt Hills. Donald and Kate were members of the Edison Club for 49 years and was an active golf league participant. As he would have wanted, Donald spent his last days surrounded by family. Survivors include his beloved wife, Kate, their children: twin sons, Richard C. Dutt and his wife Mary Maples-Dutt of Amsterdam and Robert E. Dutt and daughter, Donna Marie (Louis) Desrosiers, all of Glenville; cherished grandchildren: Sarah (Hilton) Howard, Michael (Darija) Dutt, Jeremy Dutt and Eric Desrosiers and great grandchildren, Hayden and Sylvia Howard. All are invited to share a celebration of life service conducted in requiem mass format at Calvary Episcopal Church, 85 Lakehill Rd. Burnt Hills on Sunday, June 29th at 2 P.M. with Rev. John L. Scott III officiating. A private interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Donald's name to Calvary Church or to Community Hospice of Schenectady.
