Obituary of Kurt Setzer

Kurt Setzer, 87, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family during the weeks prior to his death. Kurt was born in Burnt Hills, NY, son of the late Herman and Katherine Setzer. After graduating from Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School, Kurt entered into the Apprentice Program at General Electric as a machinist. He spent the next 42 years working at General Electric and was the second shift foreman in Large Motor and Generators prior to his retirement. His love for the outdoors brought him and his wife Mary many adventures before and after his retirement. They spent many years camping and traveled frequently to different parts of the country in their motorhome. Kurt always enjoyed a challenge and with his mechanical ability was always involved in one project or another for family and friends, he will be greatly missed! Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years, Mary; his loving daughter Linda Hartwick and her fiancé Steven Miller; his grandchildren, Jill Stanley and her husband Mike, Michael Feldman and his wife Jennifer, Christopher Place and his fiancé Crystal; his great-grandchildren whom he adored, Joseph Stanley, Michael Stanley, Abbigail Stanley, Sean Conley, Brittany Feldman, Rebecca Feldman and Donata Place; his great-great-granddaughter Isabella Conley, his sister, Eleanor Schneider; brother Rudy Setzer and his wife Ruth, Carolyn Setzer; and nieces and nephews, Debbie Greene, Tom Russo and wife Lorraine, Patrick Russo and wife Linda, Eric Setzer and wife Mindy and Heidi Setzer. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road in Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the Glenville Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2nd. Interment will be at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Kurt's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or Community Hospice of Schenectady.
